Our team reviews each application individually, and you can expect a response within 24-72 hours. If you have any questions or need further assistance, please submit a Help Ticket and we will get you in touch with the correct person.

What qualifications are required to teach with Proximity Learning?

What does Proximity Learning pay for teaching?

What are the technical requirements?

Hardware Requirements for Online Teaching

  • Reliable internet connection 25 mbps minimum download speed.
  • Operating System Compatibility:
    • Windows: 10 or 11
    • Mac: 2019 or newer, iOS 10.14 (Catalina) or newer (up from 2018)
  • RAM: 8+ GB (Preferred) (up from 4 GB)
  • Second Monitor required (can be a tablet)

 

Do you hire candidates from outside the US?

Yes, we do.  The qualifications and requirements are the same as for domestic candidates.

 

Can Proximity hire non-citizens with a valid work visa?

Yes, the qualifications and requirements are the same as for domestic candidates. PLI cannot sponsor employees.

 

Availability Requirements

Can I work in the evenings and/or weekends?

Currently, we operate only during school hours. If this changes, we will inform you.

 

What is the schedule for this teaching position?

During regular school hours 7-4 CST. 

 

What are the availability requirements? 

Candidates must be available to commit at least a 4-hour block of availability, consistently during the same time each day, Monday through Friday, between 7 AM and 4 PM.

 

I did not have a supervisor at my last position. How should I fill out this section of the application.

If you did not have a supervisor or an email at your last position, please feel free to put in N/A in that section of the application. 

If you had various team leads but did not have access to their emails or the team lead changed frequently, please feel free to put in N/A in that section of the application.

General Questions 

Is this online or in person? 

100% remote

Is this a full-time position?

Although this position isn't technically full-time, you can maintain a full teaching schedule throughout the school year, either with full days or 4-hour blocks. Additionally, you have the option to receive your pay over 10 or 12 months.

Is this a subbing position?

No, you will be the teacher of record for your classes. 

What might disqualify someone from consideration?

Not meeting minimum instructional requirements and lacking tech competencies

Are instructors only allowed to work in states in which they are licensed? 

Yes, however, if we need teachers in a state where we don't have enough certified teachers, you may be asked to apply for reciprocity. In this case Proximity would reimburse any expenses associated with the process (you are only reimbursed for reciprocity when Proximity makes the request.)

Do you have to reside in the state in which you teach? 

No

Certification Questions 

Can I apply if my license is in process?

If you have completed all the requirements, you can apply and add your license as soon as you receive it. 

Please note that we cannot hire you until your license is awarded.

Will Proximity pay for me to get certified in other states?

If Proximity needs teachers in a state where we lack sufficient certified teachers, you may be asked to apply for reciprocity. In this case, Proximity will reimburse any expenses associated with the process.

Do I have to have a teaching certification to work at Proximity?

Yes, we can only hire teachers with an active US teaching license at this time. 

Does it matter what state issued your certifications? 

No, just as long as it is valid and current.

Curriculum Questions 

Do you provide curriculum?

Yes, we provide curriculum following national standards, but we typically follow our clients’ curriculum. Many districts also  provide additional curriculum. Meeting unique state standards and client school expectations may require you to reorganize course content or add new materials to existing curricula.

Does Proximity pay for subscriptions to teaching tools and platforms?

Yes, we give you access to many digital tools like Nearpod and ample professional development tailored to synchronous virtual instruction.

When do you normally have info on the classes or schools that would be available? Access to curriculum (raw content) is available to all teachers during training. Open classes will be posted in our LMS (PLI Connect).

Training Questions 

 

How can I prepare for training?

  • Read over the VTA 1-Pager
  • Ensure Technology is Working Properly
    • Make sure all your devices and internet connection are functioning well.
    • Have a backup plan in case of technical issues.
    • Be prepared to troubleshoot common technical issues.
    • Come to training with 2 monitors. (CPU + additional monitors)
  • Create a Distraction Free Environment
    • Set up a quiet space free from interruptions to focus on your training.
  • Familiarize Yourself with the following platforms and tools
    • Learn to use platforms like Nearpod, Zoom, Canvas (free versions available)
    • Google Drive
  • Brush up on basic tech competencies 

International Applicants

What should I be prepared to discuss during the interview?

You should be able to speak to each of these topics:


 

  • Your familiarity with U.S. state academic standards
  • How you manage and engage students in a virtual classroom
  • How you maintain professional boundaries, especially separating personal beliefs from instruction
  • How you differentiate instruction to support diverse learners
  • How you accommodate and modify instruction for students with 504 Plans and IEPs

I get an error message when I have to enter my phone number. What should I do?

Our system is set up to accept a 10 digit phone number only. Please use all 000s for the phone number if you do not have a US phone number to enter. You can discuss this with your recruiter during the interview process, you do not need to submit a help ticket.
