PLI Professional Developmental Day

We are pleased to share information about our upcoming PLI PD Day scheduled for Monday, October 13th. This training is a key opportunity for professional development and is designed to enhance our collective ability to support and elevate each learner we serve.

More information is forthcoming including how to register and our session topics. In the meantime, please review a general overview below.

Date: October 13th, (AM session from 8-11:30 AM CT, PM session from 2-5:30 PM CT), each session will include three one-hour topics and two 15-minute breaks.

Attendance: Mandatory for all enrolled and active teachers with classes to attend either the AM or the PM session unless otherwise notified by your TLS. You need to select either the AM or the PM session and may not alter between both. The PD session is completely optional for teachers who do not have active classes. We encourage you to attend because of the valuable learning you will experience, however, this is not required.

Preparation: To ensure a smooth and productive day, please prepare an asynchronous lesson plan for every course you teach. Please work with your facilitator(s) and ensure they are aware of your scheduled absence and know where to find your lesson plan. We suggest you also check your school calendar because some sites will be off for the holiday and no lesson will be needed.

Important Items to Note:

  • Because this is a scheduled PLI PD Day, you do not need to complete a sub request form for Oct 13. Your absence from your classes will not count against you. However, should you not attend the PLI PD day, your absence will be counted.
  • You are not expected to teach any of your PLI synchronous classes on October 13th unless otherwise notified by your TLS.
  • You only need to attend the morning or afternoon session.
  • If you teach 3 or more hours on Oct 13, you will receive your typical compensation for the day and attend a PD session in lieu of teaching.
  • If you teach 1-2 hours on Oct 13, the Proximity Team will provide typical compensation for the extra time you need to apply to attend the full duration of a PD session.

Attendance and Scheduling

Who is required to attend?

Active, enrolled teachers (those currently teaching classes in PLI Connect) are required to attend this training day unless they have been informed otherwise by TLS. Teachers without current enrollments may attend for PD credit but are not required to do so.

Can I attend partial sessions or switch between morning and afternoon sessions?

No. You should select either the morning or afternoon session and attend the complete session. Your CSS has informed all clients of this training day, and they are aware that all PLI teachers will be absent from all classes on October 13th to attend the live PD.

What if I have a scheduling conflict?

If you have a scheduling conflict, we will follow up with alternative options and next steps. More information forthcoming.

Can I attend the sessions asynchronously or watch recordings?

The sessions are designed to be attended live.

Session Structure

Are teachers expected to interact during the sessions?

Yes, participants are expected to engage in the learning activities including: Nearpod, chat, breakout rooms, form completion, etc.

Compensation

How will compensation work for this PD day?

  • Active, enrolled teachers will receive their typical compensation for October 13th, whether they would normally teach classes or if their school was out for the holiday
  • Teachers without any current enrollments will not receive compensation but can earn PD hours
  • If you don't normally teach on Mondays or teach fewer than 3 hours, you will be compensated for the additional time outside your regular schedule
  • The training session is 3 hours long with two 15 minute breaks

What if I only teach one or two classes normally?

You will be compensated for the three hours of training time, even if you typically teach fewer hours on Mondays.

ASL Sessions

Class Coverage

What should I do about my regular classes on the PD day?

  • Communicate with your facilitator
  • Provide an appropriate asynchronous lesson plan for students
  • Your CSS has informed all clients of this training day, and they are aware that all PLI teachers will be absent from all classes on October 13th to attend the live PD.
  • No substitutes are needed (unless you have been informed by your TLS that your site is not participating in the PD Day and you are expected to teach)

Background Information

Why was October 13th chosen for PD?

This PD day was intentionally scheduled as one of two PD days during the school year to minimize academic disruptions for students because some school districts will be off for Columbus Day.

What is happening? Why are we holding PD on a school day?

We began this initiative last school year and received positive feedback from you. We want to ensure that you have access to paid PD time, and have worked closely with our clients to make this happen. We are excited to host two PLI PD days again this year and look forward to seeing you soon.
