Best Practice:
When importing Canvas Commons content, ALWAYS import into your sandbox course first, then move smaller portions of the content into your live courses.
Please do not import entire courses.
Filter your search to specific content. It's very easy to accidentally import large volumes of course materials. If this happens in a LIVE course, it could potentially displace existing content AND the grades associated with it to where they might be lost permanently.
Please exercise caution about the volume of content you seek to import.
**************************************
If you find content within a Canvas Commons course that you want to use in your course, but is unavailable to import as an individual item; you can import it using a Canvas Commons Cartridge. Use the following steps to select the content that your want to use.
First, search for the content that you want to use on Canvas Commons.
Preview the course, and write down the names of the items you want to use.
Click the Import/Download button.
Then, click download.
Once the file has been downloaded, open up your Sandbox course and click on import existing content.
Use the drop-down next to Content Type to select Canvas Course Export Package.
Then click select file and choose the downloaded file.
Then choose Select specific content and click import.
From there the file will begin uploading to your Sandbox.
Once it is finished uploading you will see it under Current Job waiting for selections. Click the blue Select Content button.
Locate the content that you want to import, check the box, and click select content.
Once the item has been imported to your Sandbox it will show as complete. If it shows as completed 1 issue, this means that there may be an external tool in use in that assignment that could not be transferred over.
You can locate the imported item in the navigation tab depending on what the item is that you imported (ie Assignments, quizzes, or discussions).
