When you browse through the internet and visit different sites, your browser saves several contents and data in temporary storage. This temporary storage is called "cache". To get rid of the fluff you should clear the cache from time to time. In the following step by step guides we will show you how to achieve that in different browsers.
Google Chrome:
- Open Chrome: Launch the Google Chrome browser on your computer.
- Access Settings: Click on the three-dot menu icon located in the top-right corner of the browser window. From the drop-down menu, select "Settings".
- Navigate to Privacy and Security: In the Settings tab, scroll down and click on "Privacy and security" in the left sidebar.
- Clear Browsing Data: Under the "Privacy and security" section, click on "Clear browsing data".
- Choose Time Range and Data Types: Select the time range for which you want to clear the cache. To clear all cached data, choose "All time". Make sure "Cached images and files" is checked.
- Clear Data: Click on the "Clear data" button. Chrome will then clear the cached files and images from your browser.
Mozilla Firefox:
- Open Firefox: Launch the Mozilla Firefox browser on your computer.
- Access Options: Click on the three-line menu icon located in the top-right corner of the browser window. From the drop-down menu, select "Options".
- Navigate to Privacy & Security: In the left sidebar, click on "Privacy & Security".
- Clear Data: Scroll down to the "Cookies and Site Data" section. Click on the "Clear Data..." button.
- Choose Data Types: Ensure that "Cached Web Content" is checked. You can choose the time range as well.
- Clear Data: Click on the "Clear" button to clear the cache.
Safari (on macOS):
- Open Safari: Launch the Safari browser on your Mac computer.
- Access Preferences: Click on "Safari" in the menu bar at the top of the screen. From the drop-down menu, select "Preferences".
- Navigate to Privacy: Go to the "Privacy" tab in the Preferences window.
- Manage Website Data: Click on the "Manage Website Data..." button.
- Clear Cache: In the window that appears, you can see a list of websites with stored data. Click on "Remove All" to clear all cached data.
- Confirm: Click "Remove Now" to confirm and clear the cache.
Microsoft Edge:
- Open Edge: Launch the Microsoft Edge browser on your computer.
- Access Settings: Click on the three-dot menu icon located in the top-right corner of the browser window. From the drop-down menu, select "Settings".
- Navigate to Privacy, Search, and Services: In the left sidebar, click on "Privacy, search, and services".
- Clear Browsing Data: Scroll down to the "Clear browsing data" section. Click on "Choose what to clear".
- Choose Data Types: Ensure that "Cached images and files" is checked.
- Clear Data: Click on the "Clear now" button to clear the cache.
After clearing the cache, you may need to refresh the web pages you were viewing to see the changes.
