PLI Curriculum: Standards, Scope, and Pacing

PLI Curriculum utilizes State Standards, a Scope and Sequence, and a Pacing Guide within the curriculum. Below is information provided on what each of these are and how they are used within the PLI curriculum.

Standards

State educational standards are guidelines set by individual states in the United States to define what students should know and be able to do at each grade level in various subjects. They cover core subjects like English, math, science, and social studies, and serve as a reference for educators to design curricula, develop instructional materials, and assess student learning. These standards ensure consistency in education, help set goals, and measure student progress while being periodically reviewed and updated to align with current practices and educational needs.

Scope and Sequence

A scope and sequence for a course is a detailed and organized plan that outlines the content, concepts, and skills that will be covered throughout the duration of the course. It serves as a roadmap for educators, providing a clear framework and order in which the material will be taught.

The scope portion of the plan defines the breadth and depth of the subject matter, identifying the major themes, topics, and learning goals to be addressed. This helps ensure that all essential content is included and that students gain a comprehensive understanding of the subject.

The sequence aspect of the plan determines the logical order in which the material will be presented. It considers the progression of concepts, building upon foundational knowledge and skills before introducing more complex ideas. This helps scaffold learning and supports students in acquiring and applying new knowledge in a meaningful way

Pacing Guide

A pacing guide is a valuable tool that empowers educators to plan and manage their instructional time effectively. It provides a suggested schedule and time allotment for teaching specific topics or units, ensuring that all necessary content is covered within the designated time frame. With a consistent pace, teachers can align their instructional plans with curriculum standards and educational goals seamlessly. Pacing guides are flexible yet structured frameworks that help educators stay on track throughout the academic year, enabling them to maintain control over their instructional plans.

PLI Curriculum

PLI Curriculum is the provided lessons, assignments, activities, and assessments located on your course modules page. Please remember that PLI Curriculum is not intended to be comprehensive. It is the responsibility of the teacher to ensure that all standards are taught and that any district-provided Scope and Sequence and Pacing Guides are followed. Meeting the educational needs of our students is highly important. It is the responsibility of the teacher to differentiate instruction and provide engaging lessons to meet the diverse needs of the students.

Important to Remember
The scope and sequence along with the State Standards define what will be taught, while the pacing guide determines when and approximately how long it will be taught. Utilizing both of these tools with any provided PLI Curriculum will aid in meeting the educational needs of the students PLI serves.
