Best Practice:
When importing Canvas Commons content, ALWAYS import into your sandbox course first, then move smaller portions of the content into your live courses.
Please do not import entire courses.
Filter your search to specific content. It's very easy to accidentally import large volumes of course materials. If this happens in a LIVE course, it could potentially displace existing content AND the grades associated with it to where they might be lost permanently.
Please exercise caution about the volume of content you seek to import.

Canvas Commons is a Learning Object Repository (LOR) where teachers can find, share, and import digital learning resources. Teachers can search for content related to their subject area to support their instruction. Content found in Canvas Commons has been approved by Canvas to be utilized within Canvas Courses. To access Canvas Commons, select Commons on your left navigation in Canvas:
Once in Canvas Commons, you can search for content related to your subject area:
Best Practice: When importing Canvas Commons content, ALWAYS import into your sandbox course first.
To search for content, type in your subject area into the search bar. Select filters, to only view the types of content you want to see (Quizzes, Modules, Assignments, Pages, etc). You can view entire courses, however, it is important to note that you cannot pick and choose items from a course to import, the entire course would need to be imported in order to access the one item you want from the course. The recommendation is to filter your search for individual items and do not import entire courses into your sandbox.
Another way to import content into your course is to favorite an item in Canvas Commons. Begin by searching for the grade level and subject that you are needing. Make sure your filter setting are set to only search for modules, quizzes, assignments, or pages. This will prevent entire courses from being selected in your search.
Select the item that you wish to favorite and then click add to favorites.
Once you have favorited the items you wish to use, go to your sandbox course and select the 3 dots on the module you would like to add the Canvas Commons content to.
After clicking the 3 dots, select Commons Favorites:
A sidebar will appear with all the Canvas Commons items you have selected as favorites. Chose the item you want to use. A green check will appear and you can close the sidebar.
The items you selected will be in the module you selected to have them imported.
From here, you can import them into the course you wish to use them in by selecting the 3 dots next to the assignment, selecting copy to, entering the course name (it will appear as a drop down as you type the course name in), and select copy.
The selected item will then appear in the course you have chosen to place it in.
