- What are some common routes to take when troubleshooting VPN issues?
- Why is my VPN/Perimeter 81 app not connecting or running slow?
Perimeter 81/Harmony Connection
These are some quick possible fixes to try when your Perimeter 81 app is not working as it should.
Note: Many issues can actually be attributed to other
1- Reset your App
This is a good overall option when experiencing any issues with your VPN, as it's generally quick and can resolve a host of smaller issues.
When logged into your Perimeter 81 app, click Support.
In the Support tab, click Reset Agent.
This is similar to clearing your browser's cache, resetting the app.
2- Change Protocols
This is a good option if you are experiencing slowness when connected to your VPN.
When logged into your Perimeter 81 app, click Settings.
Go to the Protocols section, then hover over different protocols to select them. It's automatically on Default, but you may have better results if you select a different one (this is more trial and error till you find the right fit).
3- Cycle your Internet
First, sign out of your Perimeter 81 app.
Then briefly disconnect your internet. You can either turn off your router or your WiFi on your device.
After a moment (30-60 seconds), reconnect your device's internet.
Log back into your Perimeter 81 app and connect to your usual network.
4- Uninstall and Reinstall the App
Some issues are best resolved by wiping the slate clean and starting fresh. Uninstalling and reinstalling is often the most effective fix because of this, but this option should be a last resort since it takes a little more time.
To uninstall the app, follow this guide.
To reinstall the app, follow the same steps as you did previously (starting at step 3 in this guide).
What if I still have problems connecting?
1-Basic device fixes
a- Clear your device's Cookies and Cache- How To Clear Browser Cache
b- Restart your device
c- Complete a Hard Reset/restart of your device- Hard Reset- What Is It and How To Do It?
Then, after that, please try to do the following:
d- Close all extra tabs that are not running PLIC, Canvas, and Zoom, except for anything you might need directly related to that day's lesson. This will serve to reduce the load your CPU is experiencing.
*All of these steps combined should help your device to perform better, connect, and maintain internet connection better.
2-More advanced device fixes
If those attempts do not improve performance, then we need to explore some more intricate options. This link below has several suggestions of what we can have you try to help improve your device's performance.
https://www.drivereasy.com/knowledge/how-to-fix-zoom-high-cpu-usage/
We recommend Fix 1, Fix 4, and................. Fix 6 (only # 6 if 1 and 4 don't work).
These fixes are each pretty easy things to attempt and manage and the article walks you through step by step for each one of them.
*Fix 2 requires downloading special software and we don't want to recommend that at this time for safety reasons.
*Fix 3 you do not have full access to alter
*Fix 5 is a very advanced skill to update drivers and is not recommended unless you have prior experience doing so.
3- Potential Internet Connectivity fixes
a- We recommend shutting off your Modem/Router by unplugging its power cord
b- Counting to 30
(This gives enough time to drain any residual electricity that could still be flowing through the unit).
c- Plug it back in.
d- If possible, sit closer to your router/modem, particularly if it is not in the same room.
4- Check PC Diagnostics
If none of the above steps resolves your issues connecting to Zoom with Perimeter 81 (aka Harmony) VPN, please read through this document to allow us to assess some of your computer's key diagnostic values to see if those might be a factor.
5- Contact your local internet provider
If the problems persists after all these efforts, we may need to recommend you visit with your local internet provider to see if there's anything they can do on their end. Often, they have a few little tricks they can perform to help you get a more stable connection.
